Do You Wonder Why Your AC Is Not Working This Summer?

At Paul The Plumber, we always try to put ourselves in the customer’s shoes! What are the customers biggest concerns? What is the most common reason for repairs? With over 17 years in service, we have discovered the number one issue in the summer is a nonworking AC.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a nonworking air conditioner in the middle of a heatwave! This is especially true when you have done what you are supposed to. Your windows are closed, you have paid your bills, your thermostat is working, and actually turned the unit on.

For most homeowners, the above mental checklist is the first problems to be eliminated. Once those are out of the way, you start to consider what else the problem could be. Unfortunately, there could be many potential factors that cause your AC to stop working.

In our experience, it can be as simple as your unit wasn’t properly maintained, you have low refrigerant, or dare we say your unit wasn’t installed correctly. Anyone of these issues could be why you are too hot. Not to fear, however, we are going to give you the rundown of these problems, and how to fix them!

Have You Cleaned Your AC?

dirtyunitAs soon as your AC is not working properly, people tend to jump to the conclusion that the issue is a big one. That is not always the case though! Sometimes, it can be a simple matter; such as your air conditioner has not been cleaned out.

Cleaning your air filters, and routinely servicing your AC is essential for optimal performance. Unfortunately, if you have reached the point that your AC is not working due to a clogged filter, you will need professional assistance to help you fix it.

The good news is, this can all be avoided! Cleaning the air filters in your unit is the most important step in maintaining your AC. Besides running the risk of having your air conditioner not work, you will also have poor air quality, increased energy bills, and could face more costly repairs!

Your Refrigerant Could Be Low

lowrefrigerantAnother common problem is low refrigerant. This could be due to one of two problems. The first problem could be that you are low on refrigerant (also known as Freon), and need to have some delivered.

The second issue could be a leak; which is a more serious matter. The refrigerant in your AC is what cools the air. Copper coils inside the unit contain the Freon, and it is what makes the air cool. A leak could be anywhere inside the unit.

If you suspect you have low refrigerant, you should call a professional for help. They will be able to diagnose whether you just need more, or you have a leak. Either way, you should have it looked at right away as a refrigerant leak can cause detrimental health effects over time.

Poor Installation

wronginstallationIf you are having a problem with your AC service, and you have a brand new HVAC system, it may be due to poor installation.

Though we can’t relate, we can understand the frustration this may cause. Many people who have new HVAC systems are more likely to assume it’s a manufacturer error than an installation error.

Certainly, you want to depend on the people that are servicing your home; especially when they are installing heavy appliances. Unfortunately, in some circumstances, AC units are not installed the right way. Problems with duct systems or even electrical wiring could be at fault.

I cannot say enough about this company!!! Their only concern is that you are up and running again with no worries. I’ve had Kyle the plumber, and Josh their electrician out here and both are polite, well trained and you can tell they truly care about getting you back in service. Great service, well trained caring staff! I will never go anywhere else!

K. Bernardo

We’re first time home owners and needed help with some plumbing and adding a filter system. They were able to get a technician scheduled to our house within a day or so of me contacting them. Mike was super helpful and was able to complete all the jobs in a timely manner, and also cleaned up the areas he was working in. Overall a great experience and would definitely use them for future jobs.
